This test measures the resistance to the poling action of vehicle tyres under conditions
similar to those occurring on the surface road. Polish stone value (PSV) is introduced to
represent the resistance stat of surface.
The test is followed BS 812-114:1989: Methods for determination of the polished-stone value.
The friction tester is used to measure the PSV. Ten locations are randomly chosen as test
point. At each test point, two initial swings shall be carried out, to remove the surface
moisture. Three further swings would be processed. The mean value of last three swings’
results will count as PSV for test point.
